Former Manchester city captain, Vincent Kompany has retired from football following his appointment as the coach of his new club Anderlecht.

The 35-year old left the citizens, after 11 years last summer for Anderlecht, where he assumed the position of a player coach.

He has also explained that he would have continued playing if not for the injury he sustained.

The citizens have made his statue alongside that of his former teammate, David Silva who has just played his last match for the citizens, after spending ten years.

The statues will be unveiled at the entrance to the Etihad stadium.

Many people, especially Africans have criticised such gesture, stating that the citizens should have extended such reward to Yaya Toure, who gave his all for the club.
